CH IV (excerpt) — the Krater (cup of Mind)

The Father is unbegotten; he begot the All. The Son is the Mind. The Mind sent down the Krater — the cup — full of the gift of Mind. He sent a herald, who proclaimed: Be baptized in this cup, you who are able. Whoever believes that you shall ascend to him who has sent down the cup; whoever knows for what purpose you have come into being.

As many as understood the herald, and were baptized in the Mind, became partakers in gnosis, and were made perfect men, having received the Mind. But those who did not understand the herald — they who received only speech, and not the Mind — they remained ignorant; they walked in error; they followed the lower path.

Therefore, my son, the Mind is offered as a gift. It is poured out into the Krater; whoever drinks shall live. Whoever does not drink shall remain a man, but shall not become a god.

Hold yourself, then, with all reverence, in this Mind. Live in this gnosis. So shall you become divine.
