Spell 183 — A hymn of praise to Osiris

R.O. Faulkner / E.A. Wallis Budge (composite, abridged) · Public domain / scholarly composite. Reproduced for educational and religious commentary.

A hymn of praise to Osiris Wennefer, the great god, lord of Abydos, king of eternity, ruler of everlasting, who passes through millions of years in his lifetime.

Hail to you, Osiris, lord of eternity, king of the gods. Many-named — holy of forms — secret of rites in the temples — noble of ka in Busiris.

Lord of provisions in Pe — sustenance of the offerings in Heliopolis — lord of remembrance in the Hall of the Two Truths. Hidden of soul, lord of the cavern — sacred in the white wall.

Soul of Ra — his very body — who rests in Heracleopolis. Glorious one, praised in Naret — exalted of soul in his place. Lord of the great hall in Khmun — great of terror in Shasotep — lord of eternity, head of Abydos.

Praise to you, Osiris. The earth becomes green at your rising. You are the moon at night. You are the sun by day. You are the inundation of the Nile that gives life to the Two Lands.

You are the king of those who are above and of those who are below. The shaft of grain springs from you. The harvest is yours. The earth lives because of you.

O Osiris, you have not died. You have gone away alive. You sit upon your throne. Your son Horus stands by you. Your sister Isis embraces you. Your sister Nephthys mourns you no more — for you are eternal.

Grant unto me — me, the Osiris N — that I may follow in your train. That I may be one of the imperishable. That I may rise as you rose. That I may not perish — that I may live forever in the Field of Reeds.

Justified. Justified. Justified before the great god.
