The Paraphrase of Shem · Chapter 2

The descent and the testimony

1Then I, Shem, came down from the height. And I came down on the cloud of light. And I dwelt with my race, the race of Noah.

2I gave them the words I had received. I taught them about the three roots — Light, Spirit, and Darkness. I taught them not to mix Light with Darkness, but to keep the Light pure within their bodies, and to free the Spirit that was caught in the Darkness.

3And those who heard me received my words gladly. And they passed them on to those who came after them. And so the testimony of Shem was preserved.

4Now then, you who hear: do not be a Sodomite. Do not mingle with the Darkness. Free the Spirit that is in you. Send it back to the Light from which it has come.

5Such is the paraphrase of Shem. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
