Ode 19 — the milk of the Father

James H. Charlesworth / J.R. Harris (composite, selections) · Public domain / scholarly composite. Reproduced for educational and religious commentary.

1A cup of milk was offered to me; and I drank it in the sweetness of the Lord's gracious favour. The Son is the cup; the Father is he who is milked; and the holy Spirit is she who milked him.

2Because his breasts were full, and it was not desirable that his milk should be poured out without purpose, the holy Spirit opened her bosom, and mingled the milk of the two breasts of the Father.

3And she gave the mixture to the world without their knowing, and those who took it are in the perfection of the right hand. The womb of the Virgin received it, and she conceived and brought forth.

4The Virgin became a mother with great mercy. And she travailed and brought forth a son without pain. And she did not require a midwife — for he had nourished her.

5And as in strength a man brought forth, she brought forth by the will. And she brought him forth openly, and acquired him with great dignity.

6Hallelujah.
