Eugnostos, the Blessed, to those who are his. Greetings.

I want you to know that all who came into the world have wondered about god. They have not known him. The wise men of the Greeks and the barbarians have spoken about him, and they have all spoken in error.

Some have said the world arose by accident. Some have said it arose by necessity. Some have said it was governed by providence. None of them has spoken the truth.

Hear, therefore, the truth from one who knows. There is an unbegotten Father, who has no beginning. He is unbegotten because he has not been generated by another. He is the cause of all that is. He has no name, no description.

From him came forth the first principle — the Self-Father, the Self-Generated. He is the perfect image of the Father. From the Self-Father came forth the immortal Man-of-Light, who is also called the First-Begotten Son. From him came forth the great Aeon, who is also called the Saviour, the Begetter of all.

From the Saviour came forth the twelve Aeons, the seventy-two Aeons, the three hundred and sixty Aeons. They are the Pleroma; they are the perfect order. Each is a power; each is a name.
