Here begins the Book of Coming Forth by Day, of the praises and recitations for going to and fro in the Duat, made for the Osiris N.
Hail to you, bull of the West, lord of eternity. I have come before you. I am one of those four baboons who live on Maat, on whose hair the sun shines.
I have built up Maat for the lord of Maat. I have not done evil to humanity. I have not blasphemed god. I have not made the weeping eyes of mother or child. I have not slain any man.
O lord of Maat — your name is "Lord of Maat." I know you. I know the names of the forty-two gods who are with you in the Hall of the Two Truths.
Behold, I come to you, bringing right and truth. I have driven away wickedness for you. I have not done what is hated. I have done what the gods love. I have given bread to the hungry, water to the thirsty, clothing to the naked, a boat to the boatless, divine offerings to the gods, and offerings of food to the spirits of the dead.
Save me, defend me — do not accuse me before the great god. I am one whose mouth is pure. I am one whose hands are pure. To me there is said: "Welcome — welcome." Hail to the lord of the West. Hail to the lord of eternity.
